Paralympic Gold Medalist Cheah Liek Hou Pledges to Donate Part of His RM1 Million Reward to Charity
Para-badminton star Cheah Liek Hou is set to receive his RM1 million reward through the National Sports Incentive Scheme (Shakam), but the 36-year-old athlete has no plans to keep it all to himself.
Speaking to the media today, Liek Hou announced his intention to give back to society by donating a portion of his RM1 million reward to charitable organizations. However, he did not specify which charities would benefit from his generosity.
“I want to contribute a little to the welfare of the community,” he said.
Liek Hou noted that this act of donating prize money is not new for him; after winning gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, he also donated part of his RM1 million reward, along with an additional RM100,000 from FWD Takaful, to charity.
When asked about his plans for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, Liek Hou said he has not thought that far ahead.
“LA 2028 is still far away; I haven’t come up with any plans yet. But one thing for sure, I’ll keep playing badminton,” he added.
Liek Hou is currently focused on the upcoming Para Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Nagoya, Japan, in 2026.
