Malaysian Woman Trusts Boyfriend and Takes Out Loan for Him, Ends Up RM600k in Debt to Loan Sharks and Other Creditors
A woman found herself in debt up to RM600,000 after trusting her boyfriend and taking out various loans, including from seven loan sharks.
According to a report by Buletin TV3, the 33-year-old victim, known as Low, met her now ex-boyfriend at a function in 2017. They started dating soon after and broke up two years ago.
"At the end of 2018, he had financial problems and asked me to take out a loan because he was blacklisted by financial institutions. Being too trusting, I took out a loan of about RM300,000 in Shah Alam," she said.
She added that her 34-year-old ex-boyfriend also forced her to manage his business affairs and handle his customers.
Despite her sacrifices, her ex-boyfriend cheated on her. "I discovered he was in a relationship with another woman when some of his victims contacted me, claiming he had cheated them out of large sums and asking me to pay them."
She eventually ended the relationship, but she is still burdened with the debts he incurred as he has become uncontactable.
Another victim spoke up as well. A 33-year-old clerk named Mah lost RM100,000 to the same man after meeting him through a matchmaking app in 2021. She described him as a sweet talker.
In addition to deceiving women, he is also believed to have defrauded a friend of RM181,400 through a face mask sales and purchase scheme during the Covid-19 outbreak.
