Malaysian Badminton Player Tan Boon Heong Reveals How He Was Scammed Twice by His Own Friends
Some of the most common scams in Malaysia involve money, but who would’ve thought even professional athletes could fall victim to them?
Malaysian badminton player Tan Boon Heong recently shared a story about how he was scammed out of a huge amount of money by his own friends.
According to the New Straits Times, Boon Heong is not the only badminton player who’s been scammed. Lai Pei Jing also recently lost most of her life savings to scammers.
Boon Heong revealed on Facebook that he lost RM2.3 million in an investment scam orchestrated by his friends. He posted this after learning that his fellow badminton player had recently been scammed as well.
He wrote, "Seeing my fellow shuttler get scammed reminds me of the time I got scammed too."
The so-called friend went MIA!
Boon Heong opened up about being scammed twice, once for RM2.3 million and another time for RM160,000, by people he knew, including a friend whose child is also a badminton player.
He said he’s sharing his story so others can learn from his mistakes and be cautious about where and with whom they invest their money.
"Every scam you fall for teaches you something. That’s just life. You can’t avoid the detours. Everyone has to take at least one."
