How to Apply for Your Child’s MyKid Now That Applications Have Reopened
Earlier last month, the National Registration Department (JPN) announced that it would resume accepting MyKid applications starting from 29 July.
This comes after JPN’s announcement in June last year that the issuance of MyKid cards had been suspended due to a global chip shortage.
Parents who applied for their child’s MyKid before the suspension have until 31 October 2024 to reconfirm their application and collect the card at their designated JPN office.
Here’s how to review your pending MyKid application:
STEP 1: Visit this link. STEP 2: Enter your child’s MyKid number (located at the top right of the birth certificate) and birth certificate number, then click 'Semak.' STEP 3: Click 'Cetak MyKid.' STEP 4: Go to your designated JPN office with the following documents:
- Your child’s original birth certificate
- Notis Kutipan MyKid (issued during your initial application)
- Your (the applicant’s) MyKad
Note that your child does not need to be present when you collect their MyKid.
Should I apply for a MyKid for my child? Any parent can apply for a MyKid from the day their child is born up to the age of 12.
While not mandatory, having a MyKid offers added convenience, as it eliminates the need to carry your child’s original birth certificate for official purposes. The MyKid can be used for airport security, medical treatment, pre-school services, and more.
The MyKid functions similarly to the MyKad, except it does not include a photograph or thumbprints.
Here’s how to apply for your child’s MyKid at a JPN office: STEP 1: Take a number at any JPN counter. STEP 2: When your number is called, go to the counter with your child’s original birth certificate and your MyKad, and inform the officer you would like to apply for a MyKid. STEP 3: The application is free, and the officer will inform you when you can collect the printed MyKid.
