Hannah Yeoh Advocates for Nationwide Shopping Malls to Allocate Spaces for Malaysians to Engage in Exercise and Sports
The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) is suggesting that shopping centers and malls across the country create designated areas for Malaysians to exercise and participate in sports activities. Minister Hannah Yeoh, in a Facebook post, expressed the Ministry's commitment to intensifying efforts to promote malls as safe spaces for leisure and sports.
Yeoh recently inaugurated the Digital Sports Arena at i-City in Shah Alam, which offered such facilities for the shopping center's visitors. The KBS Minister emphasized the ongoing collaboration with shopping centers to establish secure leisure and sports zones for people of all ages, including youth and senior citizens. These areas in malls aim to foster a sports culture among visitors and encourage them to explore new sports.
Yeoh revealed that her Ministry had conducted both online and in-person meetings with shopping centers and retailers to discuss the proposal, leveraging the vast spaces available in Malaysian malls, especially beneficial for youth activities. Several plans and collaborations, such as the Digital Sports Arena at i-City, have been initiated to promote sports activities.
However, Yeoh highlighted the importance of enhanced security measures, such as CCTV monitoring, if specific spaces within malls are used for leisure or sports. She invited public opinions on KBS' initiative to transform shopping malls into sports centers for Malaysians, encouraging people to share their thoughts in the comments section.
