Fahmi: Google Deactivates MYR Currency Converter Widget Due to Technical Challenges
Over the past week, there has been significant attention on Google's currency conversion widget, particularly due to an error observed on March 15.
Recently, the widget disappeared, prompting various speculations among netizens. At the time of writing, a search on the search engine indicates that the widget remains unavailable.
Fahmi Fadzil, the Minister of Communications, has stated that Google has disabled the widget for MYR searches while they address technical issues. He mentioned that this decision came after discussions with Bank Negara Malaysia, aiming to prevent future errors in displaying MYR rates.
"We were informed of necessary rectifications, which we perceive as a positive step towards maintaining the integrity of Google's data," Fahmi commented.
The minister assured that the widget would return once all issues are resolved, stating, "I have been informed that the display of RM exchange rates will be reinstated once Google completes all required processes."
In the meantime, while awaiting the resolution, Fahmi urged against speculation, as reported by BERNAMA.
"I urge all parties not to spread baseless accusations or insinuate that Google's actions were influenced by any particular entity."
