Elon Musk Revises X’s Guidelines to Officially Permit Adult Content, Supporting Adult Content Creators
X, formerly known as Twitter, is now officially rated X, allowing users to post adult content without violating platform rules.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX who previously acquired X, has updated the platform’s guidelines to permit the sharing of adult content, including pornography. According to X’s latest guidelines, adult content must be properly labeled and not prominently displayed.
“You may share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior,” the guidelines state. They add, “We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality.”
So, what qualifies as adult content?
Based on the guidelines, anything depicting consensually produced nudity and sexuality, pornographic material, or content intended to cause sexual arousal falls under adult content.
It seems Musk wanted to ensure users understand what they can upload, which includes AI-generated pictures, hentai (Japanese anime porn), and cartoons.
Does this mean X is now NSFW (Not Safe For Work) and unsuitable for minors? It appears so, putting it in direct competition with platforms like OnlyFans.
Before Musk’s takeover, Twitter already allowed porn. The company estimated that 13% of all posts on the platform contained adult content, according to Reuters.
Now that you can post adult content on X, the only requirement is to adjust your media settings and label your posts.
“This will place all your images and videos behind a content warning that needs to be acknowledged before your media can be viewed.”
If you fail to do so, X will label the content for you, with no punishments or penalties involved.
