Caterer Disappears and Defrauds Malaysian Newlyweds of RM13K; Siblings Unite to Prepare Meals for 1K Guests
On the wedding day, nothing takes precedence except for potential disruptions that can mar the significant occasion. A Malaysian couple found themselves on the brink of a wedding disaster when their caterer went AWOL, jeopardizing the grand celebration. Fortunately, the bride's siblings rallied together to salvage the situation.
On the eve of the wedding, attempts to contact the caterer, responsible for preparing dishes for a substantial 1,000 guests, proved futile as calls and messages went unanswered. Undeterred, the siblings, faced with a last-minute crisis, hurried to the nearby supermarket, purchasing an array of ingredients to whip up a feast for the attendees.
In a TikTok post by one of the siblings, the urgency of their late-night supermarket run was evident, occurring beyond the store's regular business hours. Back at home, the family persisted in trying to reach the missing caterer, who had also vanished with the substantial RM13,000 payment from the couple. The siblings pooled their resources and determination, deploying all available means to ensure that as many guests as possible would be fed.
Burhanuddin, the bride's brother, shared, "Some went out to find pieces of furniture, some were tasked to buy ingredients and disposable dishware." The dedicated family stayed up throughout the night, preparing an estimated 400 dishes. Their collective efforts not only saved the day but left some leftovers after the wedding ceremony.
Despite the unforeseen challenges, the wedding proceeded smoothly, and guests had no complaints about the food, albeit at the expense of the family's energy and the loss of RM13,000.
In the spirit of teamwork, the incident highlights that nothing is insurmountable, even in the eleventh hour. As of December 26, the caterer has yet to respond, having blocked all communication channels. The bride's elder brother, Najumudin, revealed that a police report was filed the night before the wedding by his sister, the bride, while other siblings were engaged in their respective missions. The clip below captures Najmudin and "his team" stepping up to become their own caterers in this unexpected turn of events.
