American Guitarist Receives Numerous Messages from Malaysian SPM Students Following Mention in English Listening Test
The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, marking a significant milestone for teenagers born in 2006, commenced officially on January 30, 2023. However, components of both the English and Malay language tests, including the oral and listening sections, commenced earlier.
Specifically, the official English listening test took place on January 29, a day before the commencement of the examinations, for students nationwide. While this might not seem particularly noteworthy to the general public, an allusion to American guitarist and jazz musician Kyle Green has captured the attention of artists, with Green commenting on the SPM 2024 exam on his Instagram page @kylegreenmusic.
In a series of Instagram stories shared on his account, Green revealed that he received an influx of direct messages, emails, and phone calls from various SPM students in Malaysia. According to Green, they informed him that a character resembling him was featured in their English language listening test.
“They listened to an interview where the interviewer was speaking with a musician named Kyle Green, who is a jazz musician or something similar. To the best of my memory, I don't recall participating in such an interview, so I assume it was some fictional scenario,” Green stated in his Instagram story.
Reflecting on the aftermath of discovering his inclusion in the exam, Green mentioned that SPM students sought him out online and inundated him with messages. Concurrently, Green cautioned his followers to be vigilant against fake accounts impersonating him during this time.
“To the students in Malaysia, I hope you performed well on the test. If not, I encourage you to study harder next time. And to those who have shown interest in my music and offered kind words, I am grateful and hope you enjoy. That's all I wanted to convey. It's been quite a morning, so best of luck to all of you!” he concluded at the conclusion of his series of stories.
