30-Year-Old Malaysian Earning RM4K Monthly Accumulates RM90K Debt Using Six Credit Cards
A credit card can be an excellent financial tool if used correctly and debts are paid on time, without resorting to minimum payments. But what happens if you use it irresponsibly?
A 30-year-old Malaysian man found himself buried under RM90,000 of debt after using six credit cards. In a Facebook post on Muflis Bankrupt di Malaysia, he revealed that his monthly salary was RM4,000, the same amount he earned when he initially applied for all the cards.
"Don't ask how my cards were approved. I had my ways, but I won't disclose it."
He used his credit cards for everything, including purchasing a car. What was meant to be financial aid turned into an unhealthy addiction. Unable to stop swiping, he applied for more cards as backups.
"I couldn't live without credit cards. When debts on card A increased, I applied for card B for a balance transfer. When debts rose again, I applied for card C for the same purpose."
When faced with a financial crisis, he realized he needed to change his ways. With nearly six figures in debt, he contacted the banks for all his cards and began the process of paying off his debts.
"I cried while doing so. I started to clear my debts through debt consolidation."
