The First Malaysian-Indian Woman to Achieve the Position of Royal Malaysian Air Force Pilot
Introducing Lohappriya Manisegaran, a Malaysian-Indian woman whose name is currently making waves on social media as she becomes the first female pilot of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
Hailing from Klang, Lohappriya was among the 38 trainees honored at the Flight Wing Presentation Ceremony for the Basic Flight Course Series 81/18 and Basic Helicopter Flight Course Series 60/18 held at the Aerospace Hall, Air Force College (KTU), Head Batas in Alor Setar on October 9.
According to a statement by the RMAF, among the 38 trainees, eight are fighter pilots, 15 are aspiring pilots, and 15 are helicopter pilots. They are destined to serve in various branches of the Malaysian Armed Forces: the Malaysian Army (TDM), the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM), and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM).
Having completed her degree at the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) in 2018, Lohappriya received special recognition from Sultan Muhammad V, the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Reflecting on her journey, which spanned nearly six years, Lohappriya reminisced about receiving her commission as a UPNM Cadet Officer at Perdana Camp, Sungai Besi in Kuala Lumpur.
Now holding the rank of lieutenant, Lohappriya proudly serves as an RMAF pilot, making history as the first Malaysian-Indian woman to achieve this milestone. She shared her excitement on her personal Facebook profile by posting a photo of herself receiving the Flight Wing.
