Terrifying Footage Captures Indonesian Football Player Being Hit by Lightning During Match
It's been estimated that if all 8 billion individuals on Earth were equally exposed to the risk of being struck by lightning over a 70-year lifespan, the lifetime probability would be around 1 in 60,000.
Regrettably, one man in Indonesia became that 1 in 60,000 statistic.
Recently, the Githii Twitter page shared a distressing video depicting the tragic death of an Indonesian football player after being struck by lightning during a match.
They tweeted, “This incident occurred during a football match in Indonesia.”
In the footage, 35-year-old Septain Raharja can be seen walking on the field during a friendly football match between 2 FLO FC Bandung and FBI Subang at the Siliwangi Stadium in Bandung, West Java, when he was struck by lightning around 4:20 pm on Saturday, February 10.
According to a report by NDTV, Raharja collapsed on the field after the strike and was promptly rushed to a local hospital, where he tragically passed away soon after.
Githii also shared signs to recognize when lightning is imminent. “Nature often provides warnings before lightning strikes. You may experience your hair standing up or a tingling sensation on your skin. Some individuals even report a metallic taste in their mouth. These signs indicate a strong electric field around you and the potential for lightning strikes,” they advised.
“If you notice any of these signs, it's crucial to immediately seek shelter in a safe location, such as indoors or in a car. Remember, lightning can be unpredictable, so exercise caution whenever thunder is heard,” they added.
