S'porean Neighbor in JB Upset as Residents Play Fireworks on Chinese New Year Night, Saying It Disturbs My Child
As proud Malaysians, we cannot overlook the vibrancy of festive seasons such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, or Deepavali. While some individuals prefer to enhance celebrations with the presence of firecrackers, others may not appreciate the noise they bring.
In a recent viral Facebook post shared by Omiko QiQi, a neighbor residing in Johor Bahru, reportedly of Singaporean origin, expressed discontent over the sound of fireworks by confronting a Malaysian neighbor. According to the original poster, despite having boxes of fireworks outside her house, they had not ignited any.
It transpired that the noise was emanating from neighbors in another house who were setting off fireworks.
The Singaporean neighbor informed Omiko that her child had been disturbed and woke up five times due to the noise, suggesting that fireworks should not be set off late at night.
"We haven't even lit the fireworks, why are you scolding us?!" a man responded to the disgruntled neighbor.
Despite her initial tone, the unhappy neighbor clarified that she wasn't scolding anyone but was merely curious if Omiko's family intended to set off fireworks.
"Okay, sorry. It's my fault. I was just wondering if you guys were planning to set off the fireworks."
Omiko added that the Singaporean neighbor returned home after being reprimanded by several neighbors, insisting they would indeed set off the fireworks.
"So, is she going to scold the entire street of neighbors?"
However, netizens felt that the noise shouldn't have been an issue considering the festive season.
"It's Chinese New Year, and Malaysia celebrates with lively vibes. Her child woke up five times? Then put him back to sleep," remarked one user.
"This is how we celebrate in Malaysia. If you can't accept it, perhaps this isn't the place for you."
Another user suggested, "She might have to scold the entire street of neighbors."
"It's just once a year. She can't go around scolding neighbors regardless of the noise. Ridiculous. She might as well go live in the jungle where her peace won't be disturbed."
"Maybe she should live in the jungle. No one can disturb her there. Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!"
