KK Supermart & Supplier Company Fined RM60K Over 'Allah' Socks Controversy
KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd and supplier Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd were each fined RM60,000 by the Shah Alam Sessions Court on 15 July for causing offense to Muslims by selling socks with the word ‘Allah’ written on them last March.
According to Harian Metro, Judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir made the ruling after Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Masri Mohd Daud presented new developments in the case. Consequently, the charges were reread to the accused.
Upon hearing the charges, Tee Kok Hiem, the general manager of KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd, and Soh Hui San, the director of Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, both pleaded guilty.
Previously, on March 26, Datuk Seri Dr. Chai Kee Kan and his wife, Datin Seri Loh Siew Mui, from KK Supermart & Superstore, pleaded not guilty to charges of intentionally hurting the feelings of Muslims by displaying the socks with the word ‘Allah’ at their Bandar Sunway location at 6:30 am on March 13.
Additionally, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd and its three directors—61-year-old Soh Chin Huat, his 62-year-old wife Goh Li Huay, and their 36-year-old son Soh Hui San—were each charged with conspiring to hurt the feelings of Muslims.
