Johor Bahru Earns "Scam City" Label from Tourists Due to Closed, Abandoned, and Renovating Attractions
The Menteri Besar of Johor recently described the state as a touristic treasure. However, a foreign tourist disagrees, labeling Johor Bahru a "scam city" for tourists.
Influencer KakSue highlighted the tourist’s video on her Twitter page, writing, "Johor Bahru, scam city. Sorry to say, YAB Datuk Onn Hafiz, before advancing state tourism plans, you should start with Johor Bahru. It's now known as ‘scam city’. How can you compete with Singapore when Johor Bahru's popularity is lower than Ipoh, Georgetown, or Kuala Lumpur?"
In the tourist’s video, he shared that after wanting to visit Johor for four years, he found that all the places he wanted to see were closed when he finally went.
"Any tourist place I wanted to visit has been closed for years, and there wasn’t any proper info on their websites," he said.
He mentioned that Danga Bay Park was closed and abandoned when he arrived. He also noted that "half the city is under construction" and that maintenance is poor.
