Indonesian Man Murders Neighbor Over Persistent Questions About His Single Status at 45
A 45-year-old man in Indonesia is accused of killing his 60-year-old neighbor after becoming upset and annoyed by the neighbor's persistent questions about why he was not married. The incident reportedly occurred on July 29 in the South Tapanuli regency of North Sumatra, according to Indonesian media.
The region's Assistant Police Commissioner (AKP) Maria Marpaung stated on July 31 that the victim was a retired civil servant named Asgim Irianto. AKP Maria explained that, based on a statement from Asgim’s wife, the alleged attacker, Parlindungan Siregar, arrived at their home around 8 PM on July 29. Parlindungan was wielding a piece of wood and began attacking Asgim without warning.
Asgim fled to the street, where Parlindungan pursued him and struck him in the head. After Asgim fell, he was allegedly beaten further by Parlindungan. Local residents intervened and took Asgim to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before arriving, according to AKP Maria.
The police arrested Parlindungan within an hour of the incident. During questioning, Parlindungan reportedly confessed that he had intended to kill Asgim because he was hurt by the frequent, joking questions about his single status. The two neighbors had also previously argued about their chickens wandering into each other's coops.
