"I consistently make the effort to purchase gifts for others" - Malaysian Disheartened As No One Remembers Birthday
A recent anonymous confession struck a chord with Malaysians online, detailing the poster's disappointment when their family and friends overlooked their birthday, despite the individual consistently going the extra mile to celebrate their loved ones' special days with gifts, cakes, balloons, and more.
The individual conveyed their frustrations anonymously to @meinmokhtar, who shared the message on the platform. The post resonated widely among Malaysians, garnering over 5,000 likes and more than 1,900 reposts.
In the anonymous message, the Malaysian shared,
"Despite always making an effort to celebrate, buy presents, and send cakes and balloons for my close friends' and family's birthdays, when it came to my own birthday a few days ago, I haven't blown out any candles because there's no one to celebrate with. I've tried consoling myself, but when I returned home after work today, I cried uncontrollably because I felt unimportant."
In the comments section, many expressed empathy for the individual's sense of disheartenment, offering birthday wishes. One commenter suggested that the person might be a people pleaser, and their love language could be acts of service, advising them to expect nothing in return to avoid disappointment.
Meanwhile, another commenter recommended that next year, instead of prioritizing others' celebrations, the individual should celebrate themselves first and disregard naysayers who might label such self-celebration as selfish or petty.
