Deputy Vice Chancellor of UPM Attempts Wheelchair Ramp, Takes a Comical Tumble in Video
For those without disabilities, understanding the challenges faced by differently-abled individuals remains elusive until we attempt to empathize with their experiences. Even then, our understanding falls short.
The CatsForPalestine Twitter page recently posted a video featuring Prof Dr Arifin Abdu, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student and Alumni Affairs (HEPA) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), testing a wheelchair on a ramp (which happened to be a bit too small for him) and hilariously falling backward.
The caption read, “TNC HEPA attempting to showcase navigating a ramp in a wheelchair. In the end, he took a tumble backward.”
The post continued, emphasizing the necessity of wheelchair maneuvering skills, stating, “It's not a simple task. Skill is required to handle a wheelchair. Just being able-bodied doesn't automatically confer the expertise.”
The video captured Prof Dr Arifin squeezing into a compact wheelchair before attempting to ascend a ramp. Within the initial second of his wheelchair ascent, he toppled backward, prompting others to rush to his aid.
