Body of Late Badminton Player Zhang Zhi Jie Remains in Indonesia as Family Awaits Repatriation
On Sunday, June 30, the world lost a promising badminton player, China’s Zhang Zhi Jie, who collapsed during his boy’s singles match against Japan’s Kazuma Kawano at the Asian Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and passed away. He was only 17 years old.
Over two weeks have passed since the incident, yet his body remains at the Dr. Sardjito General Hospital in Yogyakarta, despite his family's arrival from China.
According to Tribun News, Banu Hermawan, Head of Legal and Public Relations at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, stated that they have not received any news from Zhang Zhi Jie’s family regarding the repatriation of his body to China.
“There is no information yet on when the body will be collected and returned to China,” he said.
Despite this, Hermawan assured that Zhang Zhi Jie’s body is being kept safe and in good condition.
Meanwhile, Broto Happy Wondomisnowo, Head of Public Relations and Media of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), shared that Zhang Zhi Jie’s family's arrival in Indonesia has left them uncertain about the next steps for the late player’s body.
“Zhang Zhi Jie’s family has actually come to Yogyakarta, but until now, Zhang’s body is still at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital. Other than that, there are no new updates,” he said.
