Algerian Boxer's Gender Status Clarified by Olympic Organizers: 'She Was Born Female'
Algerian boxer Imane Khelife drew significant attention at the 2024 Paris Olympics after allegations questioning her gender arose. The controversy began when her opponent withdrew from the match after only 46 seconds, citing concerns for personal safety.
Addressing the situation, Olympic organizers clarified the matter. They stated, "The Algerian boxer was born female, registered female, has lived her life as a female, competed as a female, and holds a female passport."
"This is not a transgender case. There seems to be confusion suggesting that a man is fighting a woman," they explained.
Khelife's father also criticized the media for calling the situation "immoral" and "unfair."
"These women have competed in women's sports for many years. Testosterone levels are not a definitive measure. Many women may have naturally elevated testosterone levels, reaching what might be considered 'male levels,' and still be women, eligible to compete as women," he said.
